Background
Three Faculties, Four Colleges, One Belief in Ownership
University College Indonesia (UCI) was built on a long-held belief: young people thrive when they are trusted, supported, and given ownership of their learning. UCI begins with three faculties: Technology, Law, and Education — and a College system that allows students to explore interests across disciplines through Dewantara, Nexus, Eureka, and Madani. Together, this model reflects a clear idea: students shouldn’t reset when they enter university, but continue becoming who they are meant to be.

Challenge
Fast for Gen Z, Solid for Everyone Else
The challenge was to shape a website that could communicate this model clearly to the people evaluating it. The main audience is high school students, mostly Gen Z, with some overlap into early Gen Alpha. They expect digital experiences that are fast, clear, visual, and easy to navigate. At the same time, the website also needs to work for parents and external stakeholders who evaluate the university through credibility, structure, clarity, and long-term value.

Process
Letting the Narrative Lead the Navigation
The process began with desk research to define UCI’s core narrative and understand how its academic model could be translated into a digital experience. This was followed by benchmarking across university and education platform websites to identify common patterns in how institutions communicate value, structure information, and build trust online. These findings then informed the development of the user journey and sitemap, helping shape a website structure that responds to the needs of prospective students, parents, and external stakeholders.

Lesson Learned
Beyond the Course Catalog: Communicating an Idea
A university website needs to do more than explain programs. For UCI, it needs to communicate a model built on focused Faculties, flexible Colleges, student ownership of learning, and cross-disciplinary exploration — while staying relevant to prospective students, understandable to parents, and credible to external stakeholders.
